Category: Pets and Animals

I dropped off the dogs this morning at the groomer, ran some errands; picked up pastry boxes for taking my pies to the contest on Saturday morning. While I'm out I run into a lawn service guy, I speak to him, asking questions etc about their service (pest control, weed control, fertilizer etc.) He followed me to the house and gave me an estimate for service (yea!)

Afterward, I'm standing at the sliding glass door looking out at the back yard thinking about the trees, grass and stuff. I notice something strange the fence looked weird like a broken section of board, no that's not it, it has a shadow. Hmmmm.... AUGHHH it's a snake!

It's standing up I think sunning itself, I don't know... I got the camera, took a pic from the patio, moved closer to get a better one and it turned and slithered quickly away. Fast little sucker! I don't even think I got a pic of it's tail. I guess it was as scared of me as I am of it. I called James told him about it he thinks it was a black racer, well yea I figured as much. It was all black except for lips look yellowish (if snakes have lips?) and chin is white, but the head looks really small so I figured it's non-posionious. It looked like it was about two and a half feet long to three feet long. Anywho... I hate snakes... that made me jumpy, got the blood pumping.

So read on the rest happened two hours later...

Okay so I'm in the office reading about bowling balls; coverstock, core, hook and more including lane conditions, center lane conditioning, backend etc... I'm seated at my desk in front of my laptop, I have the blinds in the office in front of me with one slat cracked open at eye level so I can peep out at the cul-de-sac. Gradually I noticed something moving across the top of the shrubbery in front of me! I look closer, I expect it's just a small bird, I've been watching the mocking birds fly around diving at each other for an hour. When I look closer, I discover it's a snake!

There is a snake laying on top of the shrub, I thought it was basking in the sun but as I think that, it strikes at the house, well the window actually, right in front of me. Now I'm in fumbling around trying to get the camera turned on and angeled out the window to get a shot of the snake laying on top of the shrub.

I lean towards the window it's out there eating my lizards! I love lizards, chameleons, geckos, anoles, what ever they are, I like them. I like frogs and toads too, actually anything that eats mosquitos, even bats. But I hate snakes, loath them, fear them, they are creepy scary things. So I grab some pennies thinking okay be a tough chick, go throw pennies at it, flush it out and take some pics! Yeah uh huh good plan... (NO there isn't much change in the shrubs... and yeah I know brilliant idea huh!?!)

So that's what I did and here are my pictures. Maybe I smell good or something today because I've got this eerie feeling this thing is following me! Although I actually think this was the little brother of the one from the backyard. They look the same as far as girth but the one in back looked a good foot longer, but I wasn't exactly asking the one in front to stretch out and let me measure it.

Getting back in the house was fun, kind of like playing hopscotch, trying not to touch the ground, while being quick like a bunny getting back in the door without the snake following me! Cause I'm sure it was! The rustling noise was following me!

I guess he was cool with posing for the papparazi, but then he turned back to slither away in the brush and leaves.

AUUUUGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
