Feeling snarky and July has been good so far!

Okay two topics, one blog post.

Feeling snarky. There was a knock at the door a little bit ago, I answered and it was a teenage boy supposedly selling home delivery service for the local newspaper. I highly doubt what he was up to, maybe I'm a more cynical person than I realized. I personally thought of myself as an optimist believing in the best from people and circumstance until proven otherwise. However I refuse to be taken.

The conversation between the teenage boy and myself was something like this. He introduced himself as representing the local paper saying he was out selling home delivery. I declined the invitation to purchase home delivery on the grounds that I already get the paper... pause you mean you go get it? Well yes if you mean from my drive way, I have home delivery. Oh.

I worked in newspapers for nearly 10 years, with my past knowledge and experiences from working there I don't truly believe this boy was working for or contracted by the paper to solicit subscriptions. I don't believe it because I don't believe many papers use neighborhood canvasing and door to door so much anymore. Nor do I believe they use people who appear to be so young, besides which they usually tend to provide a list of whom already subscribes so as to save the contracted workers time and their customers the intrusion at home.

I may find out if it was legit, I did place a call to the paper afterward to verify the door to door was legit and if in fact it isn't I believed they ought to know. We'll see what happens.

So I was snarky now I'm moving on because I am having a beautiful day.

July has been loads of fun so far. My James had 9 days off earlier this month around the time our friends James T. and Rhona sent their kids Matthew and Kathleen to visit us for two weeks. We had so much fun with the kids and got out and did new and interesting things while they were here. They flew into Tampa (by far my favorite airport, except for the occasional snarky employee), I think the kids liked that, it was their first time flying alone. While the kids were here we went to; Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios, the midnight premiere of Harry Potter (the fifth movie), we took the kids kayaking and canoing and spent the rest of that day at our favorite local beach (the North beach on Ft DeSoto), we took the kids to Downtown Disney to visit the Lego Store and more, we went bowling a couple times, went to two different pools three different times, watched movies and videos together, played games, played frisbee, played with bubbles - really big bubbles, went to Wonderworks in Orlando (a museum/amusement experience), we saw Ratatouille, and picked up our copies of the new Harry Potter book (which I've finished.)

It was so much fun! Since the kids visit I have read a book and worked on getting the house ready for our next round of visitors who will arrive in less than a week. Meanwhile I have also caught up on some of the shows I like that would be less than suitable to watch with teen/tweenagers. The last few days the kids were here the weather pattern was beginning to change, we began having showers and storms in the afternoon and it seemed they started earlier and earlier every day and that has kept up in the same way until today.

We are used to the fact that living so near the Gulf of Mexico that the daytime heating and humidity make for great afternoon showers and sometimes storms but that has canceled or cut short some days when we (the kids, myself and friends) wanted to hit the local pool. Today has been beautiful though, hot but gorgeous. So Mellanie and I were able to hit the local pool for a few hours and get some sun and swimming in, it felt so nice too. I think the recent storms, rain and cloudy weather had something to do with it but the pool water was cooler today than the last time we went. As warm as it gets here there are some days it feels downright warm in the pool, a little too much like bathwater. Warm pool water can be unnerving if your not expecting it.

Having gone canoing/kayaking with the kids while they were here that has also opened up a new area of interest for us as well. I had been before as had James but we've begun to think of getting kayaks so we could do that more often, sounds like fun to me especially knowing that there are plenty of places we can put in and paddle around as well as the fact that we can fish from them. We'll see what happens.

So like I said July has been and continues to be a great month here in Sunny Central Florida.

Well gotta run, more to do around the house and stuff... see you later allig8tors.
