So long 2007, welcome 2008!
I gave into superstition slightly on the last day of 2007, doing a light purge on a few closets, catching up laundry and cleaning house. I had a supervisor a few years ago who mentioned that one superstition surrounding New Years Day is however you spend your day that first day of the new year you will be destined to spend the rest of the year in the same way. My thoughts that drove that big cleaning push, I don't want to spend my year cleaning or obsessing thinking about cleaning.
My first day in the new year I plan to bake a few pies, visit some friends, take some cool photos with my new camera and make a good dinner. Dinner tonight will be pork roast, salad, greens (cooked spinach, I'm not big on collards) and black eyed peas. The greens and peas are one more nod to superstition. I'd never heard of this one before marrying a Southerner, but eating peas and greens on the first day of the year is supposed to bring prosperity in the new year, the peas represents coins and the greens represent fold-able money. No matter whether this superstition is true or not its the makings for a healthy meal.
I guess it's a little fitting and I can expect to repeat the cycle in the new year if superstitions have any truth to them which looking at the paragraphs above I think there's a little something to it. I am not a very superstitious person but I did spend my last day of the year working on one and the first day of this year. When it comes to superstition though I do not believe all of them, like Friday the 13th, I've actually had some of my best days on Friday the 13th.
However you ushered out the old year and brought in the new I hope both were happy occasions and I wish you all the best for 2008 and beyond.
See you later allig8tors.
